Ransomware Outbreak Uses a Microsoft Exploit Called EternalBlue
By Henry WashburnThere are some fancy names out there, but ransomware thieves are currently (as in RIGHT NOW) raking in bitcoin globally using a ransomware variant called WanaCryptor. This variant uses the leaked Microsoft Windows exploit, EternalBlue, to infect organizations quickly and reliably. So far it has enacted attacks in 99 countries. It has exploded worldwide, and the scale is unprecedented.
We first heard of National Health Service (NHS) in the UK being infected and effectively brought to a standstill until their data is restored. They need calendars, documents, EMR services, etc. to be able to run and so far they have not been able to.
If you’ve got Word, Excel or image files stored in OneDrive, you need a backup. You need to be able to restore those files fast. Refuse to become a statistic, back all your Office 365 data with Backupify and be at ease.
