If you’ve never heard of Root Capital, here’s a quick snapshot: the non-profit helps grow rural prosperity in poor, environmentally vulnerable places in Africa and Latin America by lending capital, delivering financial training, and strengthening market connections for small, growing agricultural businesses.

Root Capital is similar to other NGOs in that money and resources are tight. Most of Root Capital’s technology infrastructure is in the cloud - helping the organization be more effective day to day while keeping costs reasonable. Cloud technologies also help Root Capital collaborate around the world.

According to Meghan Butler, IT Applications Administrator at Root Capital “As an international non-profit we have staff and consultants in more than 10 countries across the world so it’s really important that we’re able to easily collaborate and communicate with each other.”

Root Capital relies on two cloud technologies pretty frequently: Google Apps and Salesforce.com. In fact, Root Capital fairly recently integrated all of their loan management information into Salesforce.com.

With daily financial information being stored in Salesforce.com, Root Capital turned to another cloud technology, Backupify, to ensure all of their data was being properly backed up. Backupify helps Root Capital by providing a secure, second copy of the organization’s Google Apps and Salesforce data - protecting this mission critical information.
